ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY SCHOOLS
PURPOSE
The DeBose Festival is designed to provide creative experiences and opportunities for the benefit of school youth in the Literary, Visual and Performing Arts. Significant to the theme: “Outreach & Discovery ~ Embracing the Arts” the East Baton Rouge Parish Schools Gifted and Talented Programs, Innovative & Creative Services, Magnet Schools Programs, Music and Fine Arts. Host Schools will be: McKinley Middle Magnet School (Herman Brister, Principal; McKinley Senior High School (Armond Brown, Principal); Scotlandville Magnet High School (Ernest Morris, Principal); and, Southern University will be signature partnerships celebrating the 36th season. Principal administrators and representatives have joined with the DeBose Foundation to highlight these instructional programs throughout a curriculum focused comprehensive series of events. East Baton Rouge Parish School System and the DeBose Foundation have enjoyed over 30 years of community collaboration in the areas of Literary, Visual and Performing Arts. Several schools have been invited to represent the parish through various performing arts ensembles as well as solo performances. In addition, schools will also participate in the DeBose Annual Visual Arts Poster contest as well as participate in the Visual Arts special display of select student artwork. These student artworks are to be highlighted at various city-wide art museums and educational institutions such as Baton Rouge Community College, Baton Rouge Libraries, Baton Rouge Art Gallery, and Southern University. Listed below are the core/mainstay participating schools which have continually represented East Baton Rouge, featuring in 2010 approximately 700 students in elementary, middle and high school participation.. The principals of these schools have formally approved their support for this prestigious performance opportunity.

Through the Office of East Baton Schools Fine Arts Director (Wayne Talbot, Director), and in the spirit of continued outreach, invitations have additionally been extended to the schools systems of Baker, Central, Zachary and Livingston Parish. Open-Participation is available to surrounding parochial and/or private institutions from contiguous parishes.
ELIGIBILITY Programming through community partnerships is a signature to the festival’s charge for the benefit of community. The festival’s interdisciplinary focus applies the mutual standards of achievement through each Arts Discipline with special interactive “participant-oriented” experiences. Each student is being invited to participate in this annual observance, and showcase artistic accomplishments through curriculum-driven enrichment projects. Participation divisions are: Visual Arts (Elementary, Middle and High School); Performing Arts ( Elementary, Middle and High School-Solo and Ensemble); Dramatic Arts & Spoken Word (Elementary, Middle and High School); JazzFest: High School Ensemble; and, Dance (School & Community Faith-Based Ensembles).
