DeBose National Piano Competition, Op. 36

We are very proud to introduce you to the forthcoming DeBose National Piano Competition, April 15-16, 2011. This invitation is open to aspiring young artists, professional artists and supporters, held annually in at Southern University-Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“Outreach & Discovery” will be the focus for the forthcoming Festival, a series of keyboard events for all ages, stages and phases.  As Arts enthusiasts gather the “DeBose experience” will rekindle and create new bonds of learning, sharing and friendship for young and old.  In recognition of your dedication to excellence in Piano Performance, we wish to bring back the talents generated by the original Mission.

Dedicated to the memory of Southern University Professor Tourgee DeBose (African American Concert Pianist), this program epitomizes major contributions as an innovative pioneer for more than thirty years.  Long-time member and Chairman of the Southern University Division of Music and “Dean” of Keyboard Studies, the annual competition-festival symbolizes a multifaceted career.  His memorable success as a concert pianist was rivaled only by his love of teaching and pursuit of excellence in the development and promotion of talented young pianists.  He motivated scores of music students; and, whose influence exemplified intense discipline, scholarship and artistry in Classical Piano Performance.

Annual  presentations feature acclaimed artists and dedicated area and local professionals.  Emerging young artists in concert/recital, master class and informance will be afforded expressions of unique cultural legacies.  Recognitions of achievement and participation are available to all. Programming avails matchless musicianship and educational experience.

The “universal language” is found in creative expression, and is here in Baton Rouge. Louisiana hospitality is an international trademark and the festival is truly a multi-cultural experience.  As you examine this brochure, you will surely find your “place” in the Arts.

Please take some time to learn about us, our program and our history of artistic service.  Write us!  Question us!  ~ Then, come, visit and experience the long tradition of Music with DeBose & Louisiana.

Sincerely,

          Myrtle E. David, Executive Director
