MISSION: The Mission is dedication to excellence in areas of the Fine Arts (Literary, Visual, and Performing) and Classical Piano, featuring a curriculum driven program, providing open access opportunities through interdisciplinary collaboration. Program endorsements, partnerships, school, and studio alliances support qualitative teaching and outcome-based performance; distinguished by “outreach” activities, interactive projects, and artist residences.
SERVICES: optimum performance/exhibition experiences for aspiring young artists and the community from its inception (1974) onto incorporation in 1986, the DeBose Foundation has expanded to meet the challenges of organizational growth, non-profit organization status requirements, including affiliations and memberships with Arts, Education, and Youth agencies.
As an annual festival, the series is designed to provide “open opportunities”; address community cultural needs; and, enrich schools subject to reduction and/or elimination of arts curricular. The curriculum-driven program salutes teaching excellence as it presents youth and professionals in performance/exhibition highlights to provide developmental curriculum support to education.
COMMEMORATION: The DeBose Competition-Festival commemorates the legacy of Southern University Professor Tourgee DeBose (African American Concert Pianist) and former Music Division Chairman. This innovative pioneer, who for more than three decades, motivated scores of students, and arts devotees. His life’s work provided music education for Louisiana’s first African American teachers and professional artists Throughout Louisiana and significant cultural centers in the United States, the Professor’s prodigious career exemplified intense discipline and scholarship in pursuit of artistic excellence.
